The cheapest open-source humanoids to build

Last updated: 21 October 2026.

Two-legged robots you can build yourself, cheapest first, with the cost as their creators state it. What a cost covers differs from one project to another (shipping, filament, tools, a phone or a computer may be left out), and prices change: read each creator's note before you buy. Only robots with an open license file are listed.

  1. RoboPrime

“The total cost is about $60-$100” (README)

Its repository includes a Windows program (AnimHelper.exe); its page says so.

  2. Bambot

  9. Roboto Origin

  10. Poppy Humanoid

“Building a complete Poppy Humanoid costs $8000-9000” (README)

    ≈ €7,120–8,010 · CC-BY-SA-4.0 / GPL-3.0 · Buildability 68

Non-commercial licenses: Microban (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) and PhoneBot's hardware (CC BY-NC 4.0) may be built and shared, not sold.

Left out: robots that state a cost but have no license file (so they are not open source), and humanoids whose creators state no cost. All humanoids are in Explore.

How to read the table. Buildability is Robotheca's score of how completely a robot is documented (how we score). On each robot's page, the parts list can be multiplied for several robots (“Robots to build”).

Euro amounts use the ECB rate of 21 October 2026 (1 EUR = 1.12 USD = 7.50 CNY), for comparison only.
